SSD hard drive upgrade for a customer – We cloned the old drive

A fairly new and high specification laptop was bought to us because the SSD drive was too small (60GB) and causing problems because of the lack of free space. The customer had bought an 120GB replacement drive and we cloned the old 60GB drive to this. It was a fairly simple job, and we charged £27 for the work (including a student discount).

We just upgraded this 6/7 year old computer from a tradition hard drive to a solid state dive. It’s breathed new life into the machine, loading everything in seconds rather than minutes. These are boot timings using SSD drive: 20 Seconds after power on – BIOS finishes initialisation – Windows 7 starts to load. 38 seconds from power on: – Windows desktop. 43 seconds from power on: – Google Chrome and google.co.uk loaded – Avast Antivirus menu loaded. 50 seconds from power on: – LibreOffice Writer 5.1 loaded.
